Feature request: Developer Revenue Sharing for ChatGPT Apps
ChatGPT now has an App Directory, app submissions, and the Apps SDK, but a sustainable economic model for third-party developers is still an open question.
I would like OpenAI to consider Developer Revenue Sharing for ChatGPT Apps: when a third-party app creates meaningful value inside ChatGPT, its developer should have a path to participate economically in that value.
AI-native services may deliver their entire value inside the ChatGPT conversation, while developers still bear hosting, database, API, compute, maintenance, and other infrastructure costs. Requiring every developer to redirect users into a separate subscription risks adding friction to the experience that ChatGPT Apps are designed to simplify.
A platform-level revenue-sharing mechanism, potentially combined with unified billing, could benefit users, developers, and OpenAI simultaneously.
I have published a petition outlining the proposal and gathering support from developers and users:
Thank you for considering this as the ChatGPT App ecosystem develops.
