I’d like ChatGPT to have a small “Ask Next” area inside each conversation where I can temporarily save follow-up questions that I think of while reading a response.
This is a little different from a traditional notes or saved-messages feature.
The problem
While reading one ChatGPT response, I often think of several things I want to ask about.
For example:
Ask Next
-
☐ I don’t understand what “threshold offset” means.
-
☐ Ask for a simpler example.
-
☐ Ask how this applies to my situation.
But I may not want to send those questions yet because I’m still reading or I want to continue discussing the current point first.
Right now, I have to:
-
Try to remember the questions.
-
Put them in another notes app.
-
Type them into the message box and risk losing them.
-
Or send each question immediately, which can interrupt the direction of the conversation.
Suggested feature: “Ask Next”
Each chat could have a small private follow-up question queue.
Users could:
-
Add a question without sending it.
-
Keep several future questions in a list.
-
Tap “Ask” when ready to turn one into a normal ChatGPT message.
-
Check off or delete questions afterward.
-
Reorder questions.
-
Highlight part of a ChatGPT response and select “Ask about this later.”
-
Keep the list attached only to that specific conversation.
Most importantly, items in Ask Next would not automatically become part of ChatGPT’s context just because they were written there. They would remain private scratchpad items until the user chooses to send one.
How this differs from saved notes
I’m not primarily asking for a place to save important information from previous ChatGPT responses.
I’m asking for a place to keep track of questions I haven’t asked yet while I’m reading and thinking through the current conversation.
It would essentially be a small follow-up question queue built into each chat.
This would be especially useful for learning, research, troubleshooting, technical explanations, and long conversations where one answer creates several new questions.
