I am a paid ChatGPT user. Although I have not been using ChatGPT for a very long time, I use it frequently and often maintain the same conversation for long discussions and project development. Because of this, I have already encountered a situation where an existing conversation reached its limit and I could no longer send messages in it.
I would like to suggest a feature that is very important to me: I hope there can be a way to continue an existing conversation that has already reached its limit and can no longer accept new messages.
I want to emphasize that I am not simply asking for future conversations to have a larger limit.
For users who maintain the same conversation over an extended period, that conversation may accumulate a large amount of collaborative work, discussions, revisions, usage patterns, and context that gradually develops through continued interaction.
For me, the value of a long-running conversation is also not limited to the work or information stored within it. Continued interaction can gradually create a familiar way of communicating, shared context, and an emotional attachment to a particular conversation.
Because of this, even if information can be summarized and transferred to a new conversation, that may preserve some of the content, but for me it still cannot fully replace the original conversation.
I hope OpenAI will consider providing a way to continue an existing conversation. The technical implementation could be a paid extension, continuation segments, archiving older content before allowing the conversation to continue, or another technically feasible solution. I am not asking the model to keep the entire conversation history in its active context forever.
What I truly hope for is this:
Reaching a technical limit should not have to mean that an existing conversation must permanently end there.
If a feature for extending long-running conversations required an additional fee, I would also be willing to consider paying for it.
To me, this is not simply about increasing context length. It is about allowing users to continue an existing conversation that has already accumulated significant content and meaning.
