There are already several discussions about older chats being difficult to access in the new desktop app, but my request is slightly different.
The desktop app already has useful features such as sorting, filtering, pinning, and Sections. However, these features appear to be centered around “Recents” rather than the user’s complete chat history.
This makes the organization tools feel unnecessarily limited.
If sorting and filtering already exist, I think they should be able to operate across the full chat history.
Please consider adding an “All Chats” view alongside “Recents,” where users can:
-
Search their complete chat history
-
Sort all chats by creation date or last updated date
-
Filter across the entire history
-
Access older conversations without relying on Recents
-
Use Sections and other organizational features with long-term chat history
For long-term users, past conversations become an important personal knowledge base. Being able to organize only recent chats makes it harder to continue older discussions or find previously developed ideas.
The desktop app already has strong advantages with Sections, Codex, and Work integration. Full chat-history access would make it much more practical as a primary ChatGPT environment rather than something users mainly use for Codex while returning to the web version for older conversations.
In short:
Recents is useful, but it should not be the only practical way to browse chat history. Please add an “All Chats” view with full-history search, sorting, and filtering.
