Currently, the “Read Aloud” button is located in the action bar at the bottom of a ChatGPT response.
For longer responses, this creates an unnecessary UX friction: if I want ChatGPT to read the answer aloud while I follow along with the text, I first have to scroll all the way to the bottom of the response, click “Read Aloud,” and then scroll back to the top to begin reading along.
I suggest duplicating the existing response action controls — or at least the “Read Aloud” control — at the beginning of the response.
A natural location would be on the same line where ChatGPT displays information such as “Worked for X minutes,” immediately before the actual response begins, with a small Read Aloud icon aligned to the right.
This would allow the interaction to become:
Response generated → Press Read Aloud → Listen and read from the beginning simultaneously.
The existing control at the bottom could remain unchanged. This would simply provide a second access point at the top.
I think this would improve usability particularly for:
- long or research-intensive responses;
- users who combine reading and listening;
- accessibility use cases;
- language learning;
- users multitasking while reviewing a response.
It is a very small interface change, but it would remove a surprisingly frequent friction point.
