[Feature Request] Add Emoji Reaction Support to ChatGPT Responses + Increase User Engagement

Title :
Add Emoji Reaction Support to ChatGPT Responses + Increase User Engagement

Category:
UX / Engagement Feedback

Summary:

It is inconsistent that the OpenAI Developer Forum allows emoji reactions, but the core product doesn’t. ChatGPT should support emoji reactions to assistant responses—starting with core icons like thumbs up, thumbs down, smile, laugh, and heart, and ideally over time, allowing access to the full native emoji keyboard on iOS, Android, and desktop.

Why This Matters:

Emoji reactions offer instant, low-friction feedback, especially useful on mobile. They allow users to signal tone, agreement, amusement, and appreciation without typing.

This mirrors the expectations and behavior of nearly all modern users, who are accustomed to reacting with emojis across all modern social media and chat platforms.

Full emoji support empowers users to express subtle emotional context efficiently—crucial for hybrid voice/text use cases. Without it, this limits user expression, satisfaction and may slow lightweight engagement.

Suggested Implementation:

Add a minimal emoji barbeneath each assistant message (thumbs up/down, smile, heart, laugh, etc.).

Include expandable access to the full native emoji picker on supported devices when AI has achieved 100% recognition of current emojis sets.

Make reactions optional, reversible, and optionally for training feedback.

Ensure emoji interactions do not interrupt the chat flow or generate automatic replies.

Bonus Point:

Emoji reactions also serve as a lightweight dopamine trigger, reinforcing positive usage loops without extra tokens or friction. Emojis = User Stickiness

Important Compatibility Note:

The assistant claims it can interpret the following emojis with 100% contextual accuracy:

• Emotion & Tone:

:slightly_smiling_face:   :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:  :sob:  :face_with_symbols_on_mouth: :joy:  :upside_down_face:      :broken_heart: :sparkling_heart:

• Social Signals:

:+1: :-1:  :raising_hands: :folded_hands: :eyes: :fire: :100:

• Cultural Symbols:

Reaction-Aware Behavior (Stable Emoji Set Only):

When pushed to independently verify the claim that it is capable of producing 100% intelligent, context-aware responses to reactions using the vetted emoji set listed above, the assistant confirmed the set is fully understood, in both emotional tone and cultural context. When appropriate, the assistant says it can generate brief, calibrated acknowledgments (e.g., “Glad that landed,” “Appreciate the thumbs up,” “Haha—yeah, that one hit”), or remain silent and simply adjust tone in future replies.

This behavior, if independently confirmed, ensures the assistant feels emotionally present to users, without disrupting flow. Once broader emoji interpretation of the full emoji set is capable and stable, this system can be expanded incrementally.
