I’d love to see a dedicated emoji button added to the ChatGPT message composer on desktop/laptop.
The emoji functionality already exists, but accessing it while composing a message is unnecessarily cumbersome. At present, I have to remember the multi-click process to open the available options, locate the emoji function, select the emoji I want, and then drag it into my message. The selected emoji does not always remain where I intended it to, so I sometimes have to repeat the whole process.
What I’m suggesting is very simple:
Add a small, persistent emoji button directly beside the message-composition field.
Clicking it could open the existing emoji picker, allowing the user to select an emoji and have it inserted directly at the current cursor position in the message.
Ideally, the picker could also provide easy access to recently or frequently used emojis, as most people tend to use a relatively small selection regularly.
This isn’t really a request to create a new emoji feature. The functionality already exists elsewhere — it’s primarily a request to make it accessible and frictionless within ChatGPT itself.
For conversational users, emojis aren’t merely decoration. They can convey tone, humour, warmth, sarcasm, affection, amusement, etc. When composing a conversational reply, having to stop and navigate through several menus can interrupt the flow of thought.
A simple dedicated emoji button would make the ChatGPT writing experience considerably smoother.
Thank you for considering it.
