Feature Request: Account Merge & Data Migration

Hello OpenAI Team,

First of all, thank you for building such an amazing product. ChatGPT has become an important part of my daily work and personal life.

I’d like to request a feature that I believe many users would find valuable: the ability to merge multiple ChatGPT accounts into a single account.

My situation is that I have one account created with Sign in with Apple and another account using a regular email address. Over time, both accounts have accumulated valuable data, including chat history, Memory, Projects, Personalization, and custom settings. Unfortunately, all of these are completely isolated between the two accounts.

It would be incredibly helpful if users could:

  • Merge two ChatGPT accounts into one.

  • Transfer or merge chat history.

  • Merge Memory and Personalization, with the ability to review and resolve conflicts.

  • Transfer Projects, Custom GPTs, and other user data.

  • Consolidate multiple login methods (Apple, Google, email, etc.) under a single account.

  • Change the primary login email without losing data.

I understand this may be technically challenging, but it would greatly improve the experience for long-time users who have unintentionally ended up with multiple accounts.

Thank you for considering this feature. I believe it would solve a common pain point and make account management much more seamless.

Thanks for the thoughtful request, @brad_wang. We’re sending this to our team for logging, including account merging, login consolidation, and transferring chats, Memory, Projects, GPTs, and settings.

For now, the workaround is to export conversations from one account and upload the conversations.json file into a new chat on the account you want to keep. You can find the steps here: https://help.openai.com/en/articles/9106926-transfer-exported-conversations-between-chatgpt-accounts

This preserves the content for reference, but it won’t fully merge accounts or transfer other data.
