Feature Request: A Flexible Short-Term Pricing Model for ChatGPT — 1 Day, 3 Days, 7 Days and Beyond

I would like to suggest a flexible pricing model for ChatGPT that gives users the option to pay for AI access based on how long they actually need it.

Not every user needs advanced AI access continuously every month.

Some people may need ChatGPT intensively for a specific project, deadline, workshop, business task, presentation, or short period of learning. After that, they may not need intensive access again for several weeks.

Instead of offering only long-term subscriptions, OpenAI could consider a range of Short-Term Access Passes, for example:

1 Day → 3 Days → 7 Days → Monthly → Annual

The exact pricing, usage limits, and features could be determined by OpenAI.

Why this could be valuable

I see this not simply as a “daily subscription,” but as a different pricing model that could create another path into the ChatGPT ecosystem:

Short-Term Access → Try AI → Experience the Value → Return When Needed → Potentially Become a Monthly/Annual User

A person who would not subscribe for a full month may still be willing to pay for 1–3 days when they have an important task.

This could potentially:

  • reach users whose AI usage is occasional but intensive
  • reduce the initial financial barrier to advanced AI
  • create an additional opportunity to introduce new users to ChatGPT
  • give existing users more flexibility without replacing monthly or annual plans

Digital inclusion

Flexible access could also be valuable for people with limited budgets, students, freelancers, small businesses, educators, and community organizations.

The issue is not always whether people see the value of AI. Sometimes the issue is simply whether the pricing structure matches the way they actually use it.

A short-term option could allow more people to access advanced AI when they genuinely need it, without requiring a long-term commitment.

A possible pilot

OpenAI could test this as a limited Short-Term Access Pass Pilot and measure:

  • new users acquired through short-term access
  • usage and satisfaction
  • repeat purchases
  • conversion from short-term users to monthly or annual subscriptions
  • whether this model reaches users who previously did not subscribe

This would allow OpenAI to evaluate the idea using real user behavior rather than assumptions.

I am not suggesting replacing monthly or annual subscriptions.

I am suggesting giving users more flexibility in how they access AI:

Frequent users → Monthly / Annual
Occasional users → Short-Term Passes
Users with a specific short-term need → 1-Day / 3-Day / 7-Day access

Sometimes people do not need AI every day.

They simply need it when it matters most.

I believe a flexible access model could make advanced AI available to more people while also creating a new customer entry point for OpenAI.

Thank you for considering this idea.
