Feature Proposal: Separate Casual Chat from Resource-Intensive Tasks

Hello OpenAI community,
I would like to suggest a feature that could improve user experience while respecting privacy. Currently, casual conversations are counted toward usage limits in the same way as resource-intensive tasks, which can be frustrating for users who just want to chat.
Proposal:

  • Casual chat: Unlimited, free, no data collection. Users can have normal conversations without being affected by limits or warnings.

  • Resource-intensive tasks: Detect requests like “Calculate, Find, Program, Create, Edit…” and limit or require paid access, since they consume system resources.

Benefits:

  • Users who just want to chat can do so freely.

  • Payment applies only to demanding tasks, without impacting privacy.

  • Makes the system more efficient and user-friendly.

I believe this could help OpenAI serve both casual users and those requiring advanced tasks more fairly and effectively.
