Dear OpenAI Team,
First of all, I would like to sincerely thank you for creating ChatGPT.
Over time, ChatGPT has become much more than a chatbot for me. It has become a long-term work and project partner that I use for technical analysis, document reviews, software projects, correspondence with companies, translations, research, and many other complex tasks.
Many of these projects continue for weeks or even months.
As a result, a single project often grows into multiple long conversations containing PDFs, screenshots, photographs, contracts, emails, log files, technical analyses, translations, notes, and jointly developed solutions.
Eventually these conversations become very large, so I usually start a new chat to keep everything organized and responsive.
To preserve the work we have already done together, I save the previous conversations as PDF files and upload them again whenever I need to continue working on the same project.
This workflow already works quite well.
However, I believe ChatGPT could become dramatically more powerful with one additional capability.
My Proposal
I would like to suggest a feature that I would describe as:
Automatic Topic-Based Context Retrieval from Uploaded Project Archives
The purpose of this feature is not to give ChatGPT unlimited memory.
It is not about permanently storing personal information.
Instead, it would work only with files that the user has intentionally uploaded into the current conversation.
The Current Workflow
Imagine I spend several months working on a project involving a company called Mr. Cleaner.
During that time, ChatGPT and I create and analyze:
- emails
- contracts
- invoices
- screenshots
- photographs
- technical analyses
- complaint letters
- translations
- notes
- decisions
- project documentation
Because the project lasts for a long time, these materials become distributed across several conversations.
Months later, a new issue with the same company appears.
Today I would first have to write something like:
“Please search Chat 1 and Chat 2 for everything related to Mr. Cleaner.”
Only after receiving this instruction can ChatGPT begin searching through the uploaded files.
My Vision
Instead, I would like ChatGPT to recognize the context automatically.
If I simply write:
“I’m having another problem with Mr. Cleaner.”
ChatGPT should immediately recognize that uploaded project archives already contain extensive information about this subject.
Without requiring additional instructions, ChatGPT could then automatically:
- search every uploaded project archive,
- identify all relevant information about the current topic,
- consider previous decisions,
- locate earlier emails,
- analyze related documents and images,
- reconnect previously created letters,
- understand the history of the project,
- and immediately use that information as the foundation for the current conversation.
As a result, I would no longer need to repeatedly explain work that ChatGPT and I have already completed together.
This Is Not Unlimited Memory
I want to emphasize an important point.
I am not requesting unlimited memory.
I am not requesting permanent storage of my conversations.
I am not requesting that ChatGPT remember everything forever.
My proposal applies only to documents, PDFs, images, chat exports, and other project files that I have intentionally uploaded into the current conversation.
The information already exists.
The feature would simply allow ChatGPT to use those uploaded files more intelligently.
Why This Matters
Today, ChatGPT primarily works conversation by conversation.
However, real-world work rarely exists inside a single conversation.
A real project usually consists of:
- multiple conversations,
- PDFs,
- Word documents,
- spreadsheets,
- screenshots,
- photographs,
- emails,
- contracts,
- technical logs,
- research,
- and many other related files.
Together, these files represent one project, even if they are distributed across many different chats.
My proposal would allow ChatGPT to understand projects instead of isolated conversations.
That would fundamentally improve long-term collaboration.
Benefits
I believe this feature would provide many advantages:
- enormous time savings,
- far fewer repeated explanations,
- much more efficient long-term collaboration,
- better support for complex projects,
- lower risk of overlooking important information,
- smarter use of uploaded documents,
- a more natural workflow,
- reduced effort for both users and ChatGPT,
- and a significantly better experience for anyone working with large collections of documents.
My Vision for ChatGPT
I personally do not see ChatGPT as just a chatbot.
I see it as a long-term project partner.
The longer we work together on a project, the more valuable our previous work becomes.
My hope is that one day ChatGPT will automatically recognize when relevant information already exists inside uploaded project archives and intelligently retrieve exactly what is needed for the current discussion.
I believe this would represent a significant step forward in making ChatGPT an even more capable assistant for professionals, researchers, developers, businesses, and anyone managing long-term projects.
Thank you very much for your time, your work, and for continually improving ChatGPT.
I sincerely hope you will consider this feature for a future version of ChatGPT.
Kind regards,
