EDIT — Sunday 13th April 2025
OH. MY. GOODNESS. It’s back!!
The magical walkie-talkie hands-free voice chat is working again! Just tested it—said a quick “yes please” from the drawer (as you do), and boom! It sent automatically. No black button tapping. No stress. Just pure hands-free flow.
Whether it was a fix, a glitch reset, or divine intervention via OpenAI elves—I’m overjoyed.
Thank you to whoever restored this feature! My walk chats are alive again!
Original post about the glitch:
Feature Regression Alert: Voice Mode No Longer Sends Automatically (iOS + AirPods Walk Chat Ruined!)
Hello everyone,
I’m posting because a recent update to ChatGPT’s voice mode has seriously disrupted how I use this app—and I can’t find any direct threads about this exact issue.
Until recently, I was able to use Live Voice Mode while walking outdoors with my AirPods + iPhone. I’d speak freely, and once I finished talking, the message would automatically send—no buttons, no fiddling, just pure hands-free flow. It was perfect for long walks, creative brainstorming, or quick chats when I couldn’t safely touch my phone.
Now? Suddenly I have to press the black circle button every single time I want to send a message. Even after the voice input transcribes perfectly, it just sits there. I have to physically tap the screen—which defeats the whole purpose of hands-free walking chat!
This is a serious accessibility and safety issue for users who are walking, or just prefer hands-free interaction.
I’m using:
• iPhone (iOS)
• AirPods
• ChatGPT voice mode via app
I’d love to know:
Is anyone else experiencing this?
Did this change roll out today - 10th April 2025?
Is there a workaround (Apple Shortcut? Back Tap? Anything!) to bring back hands-free sending?
Can OpenAI PLEASE consider adding a setting toggle for “Auto-send on pause”? Even just a choice would be amazing.
This change has genuinely broken a major part of how I used ChatGPT every day. I’d love support or insight from others who walk, pace, or voice chat on the go.
Thanks so much!
