I wanted to share an observation from a support case I have been following for several weeks, because I think OpenAI could be much clearer about what Support can and cannot do after a product issue is escalated for technical review.
In my case, I reported a reproducible ChatGPT iOS issue and provided screenshots, a screen recording, device/app details, reproduction steps, and troubleshooting information. Support later confirmed that the case had been escalated for technical review.
After that, however, I repeatedly asked fairly simple status questions:
- Is the technical review still active?
- Is the issue being tracked internally as a product bug?
- Has the technical team reached any findings or identified a next step?
- Is there any expected timeframe for an update?
- Which support case should be considered the active case after additional case numbers were created?
Support acknowledged that these questions had not been fully answered, but still did not provide the requested status information. Instead, I was repeatedly asked whether the issue was still occurring and, most recently, to provide a new screenshot showing the current behavior.
This makes me wonder whether frontline Support can escalate an issue to a technical team, but has little or no visibility into what happens afterward.
If that is how the system works, I think OpenAI should say so clearly.
For example:
“Support can forward product issues for technical review, but may not be able to view or report the status, findings, or timeline of the internal technical investigation.”
That one sentence would have changed how I handled the case. I would have submitted the evidence once and waited, rather than repeatedly following up because I assumed Support could check the investigation status.
Without that transparency, users may keep reopening cases, asking for updates, or resubmitting evidence simply because they do not know that the support channel may effectively be one-way after escalation.
I am curious whether others have had the same experience: after Support says an issue has been escalated for technical review, have you ever received an actual technical status update or investigation result?
