I’ve been using ChatGPT pretty heavily lately, and one thing that started bothering me was the sidebar becoming a huge flat list of conversations.
I often remember roughly when I had a conversation, but not the exact title, so finding an old chat means scrolling through everything.
I was wondering if anyone else has this problem.
I ended up building a small Chrome extension for myself that adds collapsible date groups to the ChatGPT sidebar:
Today
Yesterday
September 28
September 27
etc.
You can collapse a date, and the collapsed state is remembered. It works directly inside the existing ChatGPT sidebar rather than creating another UI.
I made it mainly because I wanted this feature myself, but figured I’d share it in case anyone else has the same problem.

I’d be interested to know whether people actually find date-based grouping useful, or whether there’s a better way to organize the sidebar.
