I had a bunch of projects and then ended my subscription, they disappeared, but do they come back after subscribing again?
Iâm sorry I donât have an answer, but Iâd like to know too. Thereâs currently no answer to this question in the docs.

I can report the same behavior of âprojectsâ - the data within them going âpoof byeâ and being inaccessible when letting a subscription lapse. I just had one chat there to see it disappear, as I anticipated this and also didnât find it useful.
The ânew projectâ sidebar option is still there in ChatGPT without paying up, but after naming and pressing âcreate projectâ, there is just an API error.
You can export data in settings (or attempt to, often not working if there is any broken chat database), and see if you have the breadcrumbs of those conversations and instruction when you do a file text search on the emailed data. The export file received is made highly non-useful, without documentation of the message chain format.
Another $20 ransom to move chats out?
The most important thing is if it comes back if you subscribe again and itâs not permanently gone
I resubscribed and can confirm the projects come back
âWe now allow you to group your chats in âfoldersâ, as requested hundreds of times over the last years in the forumâ
âMerry Christmas PS, we destroy your access to all your chats using this feature if you stop the flow of moneyâ
