Why does App version of ChatGPT use the deep research feature without checking first, using my allowance for unimportant queries without my requesting it?

I didn’t realise that was what it was doing until my allowance flashed up. Now I’ve been extra cautious but ChatGPT just used deep research without my pressing the button fora silly query. I feel this is dishonest and a way to force people to spend more. I didn’t choose to use the deep research feature, AI did.

The subscription is mad anyway $20 or $200 with nothing in between? And I can’t speak to a real person about this.

I just had the same experience. I asked a seemingly innocuous question and it went into full on deep research mode without me asking it to. It checked 20+ sources and gave be a 3 paragraph response. I then pointlessly berated it for a couple of minutes.
