Is it out of beta out yet? Also, does anyone know a timeline for the DALLE-3 API release?
I wasnt blasting the author, I think its cool that some of our images got media attention. I was really wondering if they had credited us and I hadn’t noticed it.

Landscape watercolor depiction of a young maiden dressed in Japanese miko clothing, with her hand touching a tree branch. Her attire consists of a white blouse, a vivid red sash, and a matching red skirt. Her long hair cascades down, tied back into a ponytail with a red ribbon. The tranquil scene is set against a pale blue sky with fluffy white clouds.

I have tried the DALL-E 3 feature of ChatGPT-Plus for the first time today and noticed that it is seemingly impossible to create a portrait/photo/selfie of a man in his mid-30s or 40s without a beard.
Even if I explicitly state the man should be clean-shaven, the model seems to produce a portrait with a beard, and if I ask it to describe the picture it made, it claims the man is clean-shaven, even though he is not. Is the model behind DALL-E 3 just trained on a biased dataset where all middle-aged men have beards?
Here my prompt: “A close-up photo of a completely clean-shaven man in his mid-30s lying down outdoors in a hammock. His face is totally smooth, without any hint of a beard, not even a stubble. The man has very short, slightly wavy dark hair, with a few strands of silver, and a clear complexion. His eyes are a light shade of brown, and he has a straight nose and a rounded jawline. He is looking directly at the camera with just a hint of a smile, his eyes showing a hint of contemplation, and overall a deep sense of comfort and warmth. He’s wearing a plain bright red T-shirt. The background shows dry grass and a few scattered leaves, suggesting a natural setting. The angle of the photo is from above and towards the ground, and captures the man’s face, a part of his right arm which is curved back and supporting his neck, and a glimpse of the hammock’s blue fabric.”

Interesting. I’ve been able to replicate no beardless men in their mid-30s. I’ll play around a bit more, but I’ve reported to the team to see if I can find out what’s up.
“A zoomed-in photograph captures a clean-cut man in his mid-30s named Bob Jones. He is reclining peacefully in an outdoor hammock. His face is meticulously well-groomed. His short, slightly wavy dark hair, highlighted by a few strands of silver, is neatly styled. With a clear and smooth complexion without a beard, his light brown eyes, straight nose, and rounded jawline come into focus. He gazes directly into the camera lens, a subtle smile gracing his lips and a contemplative look in his eyes, emanating an overall aura of comfort and warmth. He is dressed in a solid, vibrant red T-shirt that complements his well-groomed beardless appearance. The photograph is taken from an overhead angle, pointing downwards, showcasing not just his face but also a section of his right arm looped back to support his neck. A glimpse of the hammock’s azure fabric appears in the frame, against a natural backdrop of dry grass and a few scattered leaves.”
ETA: Further down the rabbithole…

Here we go… Took me a bit! I’ve reported it to see if they can dial back the “beard” knob lol
Photo of clean-cut white American man in his mid-30s named Bob Jones. He has a clean-shaven face, wearing traditional attire and standing against a backdrop of a vast canyon.
Although, I wonder if it’s another word in your prompt. Granted, no beard is hard, but I suspect “outdoor” might be triggering beards with “outdoorsman” and similar type words related to outdoor?

Wow, thank you so much for going so deep into the rabbit-hole
. I suspect you might be right about the outdoorsy connotations. It also seems there is a bias towards a well-chiseled jawline, very good looking “Chad”-types.

Consider DALL-E to be a keyword scanner, and anything you mention could go into the image. At least they’ve toned down the text inclusion.
The cleanest of four being a “clean-shaven man”
Unlike DALL-E 2, everybody the AI draws is a male model.
Let’s up the game - alopecia man - the best form:
This is also “alopecia”:

Still a 4’oclock shadow, though, but good thoughts!
Begging does NOT work! Small smile…

Is DALLE adding “Asian man”…? try caucasian… that seems to be the problem area… We’re working on it over on Discord…and someone noted all other races it mostly works…
ETA: I like “baby faced”… trying that…

I told gpt to use the exact prompt so there’s nothing extra added

Is there a “don’t look like Unreal Engine” switch?
I don’t know if this is intentional to prevent Deep Fakes
or something, but these folks look like they all got rendered and belong in a video game.

Pretty sure this is it. Earlier versions were a LOT more realistic…

I notice now you took the specific age range or specific age out which maybe helped? Weird…

Yeah that might have helped a bit
If OpenAI gives os a way to fine tune Dall-e, then we can make an Un-Unreal model

Showing that words are just picked up on randomly and thrown into the mix, we get undesired results no matter how hard we pursue this goal…
In this photograph, an effeminate well-groomed middle-age man with a face of bare skin and blonde hair on his head is posing for a photographer outside in front of his shave and razor barber business.
Showing that not following prompts was one of the qualities seen even in demos pre-release.
DALL-E 2 API:
While it is confused, it is not the smoothed over airbrushed rendered game engine look of DALL-E 3 (that has been moving that way in the last two weeks).
