Hello OpenAI team and community,
My name is José Luis A. O.. I’m a Plus user who works professionally with DALL·E, primarily to generate high-contrast black and white images for laser cutting and other industrial applications.
The Problem
Since the most recent update to the web version, DALL·E no longer interprets reference images properly. What used to produce precise, usable results has now shifted to a more artistic and less controlled behavior.
The previous version (still working on the mobile app) used to deliver outputs exactly as needed:
- Pure black and white (no grays, no shadows)
- High contrast
- Clean, defined lines
- Customizable borders
- Production-ready designs for vectorization
With the current web version, these features are lost. The outputs ignore technical prompts and are often unusable for industrial purposes.
What I’m Asking For
- A dedicated “technical mode” or “production mode” in DALL·E for professional users.
- A return to the previous image-reference behavior that respected structure and contrast.
- The option to switch between artistic and technical outputs.
- An option to use the previous version on the web, as it still functions well on mobile.
Why It Matters
DALL·E isn’t just a creative tool — for many of us, it’s a critical part of a professional workflow. Losing this functionality is a big setback for industrial and engineering applications.
Final Thoughts
I’m posting this to raise awareness and hopefully connect with other professionals who rely on DALL·E for technical work. AI tools should empower both artists and engineers alike.
Has anyone else noticed the difference between the mobile and web versions of DALL·E? Have you found any workaround or tool that actually works for technical purposes like laser cutting? I’d love to hear your input.
Thanks for your time.
