Hi,
I’m experiencing what appears to be a regression with Custom GPT @mentions on ChatGPT Web.
Until recently, I could type @ inside an existing conversation or a Project chat and select one of my Custom GPTs. This allowed me to temporarily use a specialized GPT while preserving the full context of the current conversation.
As of September 26, 2026, Custom GPTs no longer appear in the @ menu inside my existing conversations.
Current behavior
In an existing chat or Project chat, typing @ only shows options such as:
- files/photos
- Library files
- ChatGPT tools
- Plugins
My Custom GPTs are no longer listed.
Important detail
If I create a completely new chat and type @, my Custom GPTs do appear.
However, selecting one opens/switches to that GPT and starts the conversation as a GPT conversation. This does not solve the problem because I need to invoke the GPT from inside an already existing conversation or Project while preserving its context.
The issue affects both:
- Custom GPTs I created myself
- Custom GPTs created by other people that I use
Previous workflow
Existing Project/chat → type @ → select specialized Custom GPT → GPT receives the existing conversation context → continue working in the same conversation.
Current workflow
Existing Project/chat → type @ → Custom GPTs are absent from the selector.
Environment
- ChatGPT Web
- ChatGPT Plus
- France
- Chrome on macOS
- Date observed: September 26, 2026
- Time zone: CEST / UTC+2
I have attached screenshots showing the current @ menu.
This looks very similar to the issue reported in June 2026 in the thread “Custom GPTs no longer appear when using @ after today’s interface update”. That issue was later confirmed as resolved, but the same behavior appears to have returned on my account.
Previous thread:

Could you please confirm whether:
- this is an intentional change related to the Custom GPT → Plugin transition,
- a regional/account rollout difference,
- or a regression in the current ChatGPT Web interface?
Being able to invoke specialized GPTs inside an existing conversation is an important workflow because opening the GPT separately does not preserve the conversation/project context.
Thank you.
