I’m a long-time user of both ChatGPT and Codex.
After the recent desktop update, the former Codex app became the new ChatGPT app, while the previous ChatGPT app was renamed ChatGPT Classic.
I understand the product change, but I’m still confused about the long-term user model.
My observations
Based on the current iOS and macOS apps, this is how I understand access to the two types of content：

I have not investigated the web and Android experiences in detail, so this table only reflects what I have observed on iOS and macOS.
The matrix shows that both platforms use the name ChatGPT, but Chat conversations and Codex projects still belong to separate histories. On iOS, Codex projects are accessed through Remote rather than appearing as part of the normal Chat history.
Why this matters
One of ChatGPT’s greatest strengths is its ability to understand my previous work and maintain continuity over time.
Currently, however, my Chat conversations and Codex project history remain separate. When I talk with ChatGPT, I would ideally like it to understand both, so that my conversations and development work can contribute to one continuous context.
My question
Is this separation the intended long-term design, or is it an intermediate migration stage?
I do not necessarily expect everything to be merged internally. I would simply like to understand OpenAI’s long-term direction for providing a consistent and continuous experience across Chat, Codex, macOS, iOS, and the web.
