Copy and Paste Issue in ChatGPT Desktop App on macOS

I found an easier workaround. If you click to “Open in Companion Chat”, and then do your paste from Outlook/Word, etc, it does seem to work. Saves me from having to paste into Notes or a Text Editor first.

It’s very annoying issue and all walk-arounds seems to add extra step to normal workflow. So the best (and free) solution I found so far is this little tool that can be found in Apple Store: Pure Paste

Thanks, worked for me and at only 0.99p, bargain.

Any news? Is anybody in OpenAI reading this? Maybe there is a reason not to fix it, but can someone explain why such a mainstream use case it is not supported?

My solution is to hold down the Shift and Command keys while copying the text, then paste into ChatGPT with the normal Command-V keys. This option grabs a clear text copy and allows you to paste that FOR FREE!

Really annoying. MS online and ChatGPT for mac work well.

I use this work-around…
I paste the text into the Notes app fist, then I select all, right click and chose “Font >” then “Remove Style”. At this point I am able to copy all the text from Notes and paste it into ChatGPT. I hope it helps.

I’m having the same issue but with Microsoft Word. I need to paste the text into a text editor first and then copy it into ChatGPT Desktop for MacOS.

Hello! I was able to work around this issue by going to the menu to select “copy” and “paste” instead of using the shortcut commands.

Why is no one addressing this issue?? Having to use really annoying workarounds is a crap solution

Seriously, this bug has been present for months on end. Happens not just with Outlook but MS Word too. Very annoying.

Same issue, I thought only having this issue, but it seems it has been here for months without any improvement :frowning:

Same here. Renders the desktop app completely unusable. This bug shout have beed fixed months ago. Especially given the price of 20$ per month.

Same issue here! I understand the solutions to use a plain text copy paste but that is a pain and should not be needed!

Thanks for that. Worked perfectly. (not sure this went in right place! Am referring to Simple Paste).

So I did the obvious, I asked Chat, here the reply;
Hello! If the text you’re pasting appears as an image, it could be due to several reasons:

  1. Copying from a Source That Converts Text to Images: Some applications or websites convert text into images when you copy them, especially if they contain special formatting or fonts.

  2. Pasting into a Platform That Interprets Text as Images: The platform you’re using might automatically convert pasted text into an image format, especially if it’s designed for visual content.

  3. Clipboard Issues: Your device’s clipboard might be storing the copied text as an image instead of plain text.

  4. Browser or App Extensions: Certain extensions or plugins can alter how content is copied and pasted, potentially converting text to images.

To help resolve this issue, you might try the following steps:

Use Plain Text Editor: Paste the text into a plain text editor (like Notepad) first to strip any formatting, then copy and paste it to the desired location.

Check Clipboard Content: Use a clipboard manager to see if the content is being stored as an image.

Disable Extensions: Temporarily disable any browser or application extensions to see if they are affecting the paste function.

Try a Different Browser or Device: This can help determine if the issue is specific to your current setup.

Pasting to notepad then copy again and paste to chatgpt works.

I am experiencing the same and would like this issue to be fixed. I have been pasting the content on Notes first and then copying it from there to paste on ChatGPT. However, this gets annoying the more I do it. I use the web version most of the time due to this.
