New models out, configured correctly for Complimentary Tokens… they do a few updates break the configuration and here we are again with complimentary tokens being charged similar what happened to the 5.5 (5.4 Mini/Nano) models.
This is specifically seen in 12th July 2026 usage
From the unexhausted 10M daily pool, I test Terra.
"billing": {"payer": "openai"}, on the Responses API endpoint (a field Chat Completions doesn’t offer for immediate confirmation.)
That indicates that I am enrolled and that the usage was not billed.
Little note: What is counter to 5.6 documentation on the model is a filled echo key:

Verification: On the platform’s usage page, by line item, there is no dollar billing for those models today seen.

In the platform site, confirm your total enrollment of the organization, or the particular projects if you have chosen to enroll by project. You may wish to exercise some toggles and saves for a confirmation of newly-stored org state.
There is no direct view of daily total tokens of the kind they are offsetting for free vs those uncaptured and billed, which might answer the final question for a judicous user.
