Hi everyone ![]()
Several proposals have suggested using ChatGPT for matchmaking. I’d like to suggest a narrower goal: don’t try to predict love — just help people find minds they might genuinely enjoy talking to.
With explicit opt-in, ChatGPT could use patterns naturally revealed through a user’s existing conversations — curiosity, humor, reasoning style, conversational depth, openness to disagreement, etc. — to identify other consenting users with potentially compatible conversational styles.
The important distinction is that these conversations were not written to impress a potential friend or partner. They may therefore reveal cognitive patterns more naturally than a dating profile or personality questionnaire.
No conversations or private information would ever be shown to another user, and matching shouldn’t simply mean “same opinions” or “same interests.” Two people could discuss completely different subjects but have ways of thinking that work remarkably well together.
The system wouldn’t say: “This person is your soulmate.”
It would simply say:
“There is someone you would probably never have met whose conversational patterns seem unusually compatible with yours. Would you both like to talk?”
Then the AI’s job is finished.
They might become friends, collaborators, debate partners, fall in love — or just have one fascinating conversation.
Instead of using AI to manufacture the perfect companion, use AI to help real people find each other — and then get out of the way.
Thank you for your consideration ![]()
