Codex Desktop on Windows 11 causes intermittent system-wide mouse stutter, even while idle

Hey everyone
I’ve been following this thread because I’ve had the same intermittent system-wide stutter on Windows 11.

Some earlier updates seemed to improve it for me, but for the last days the stutter had returned and was happening constantly. I asked Codex to help inspect the installation and local system behavior; nothing pointed to sustained CPU, RAM, disk, or GPU saturation.

While reading this thread, I noticed the reports around Pets. I had recently created a custom pet. The stutter did not start immediately after creating it, so I did not initially connect the two.

What I tried:

  1. Opened and closed the Pets UI.
  2. Removed the folder for my custom pet.
  3. Fully exited Codex and launched it again.

After that, the stutter stopped.

This is only a before/after observation, not proof that every custom pet causes the issue. But it seems consistent with the reports here where waking and then tucking away a pet helped.

If anyone else has a custom pet, it may be worth testing. Please back up the pet folder first rather than deleting it permanently. I’ve also sent a sanitized technical report to OpenAI.
