I’m having a Codex credits/workspace attribution issue.
I was using Codex Desktop on my personal account and ran out of Codex usage. I tried to buy additional Codex credits twice so I could continue working in the same Codex desktop app/account context.
Instead, each purchase appears to have created or funded a separate new workspace. I now have two extra workspaces with credits, but those credits are not available in the Codex Desktop workspace/account I was actively using.
What happened:
- I bought Codex credits twice.
- Both purchases appear to have created or landed in separate workspaces.
- I now see extra workspaces with credits.
- My original personal Codex Desktop account/workspace still does not have the credits available.
- I sign in with email + password.
- I did not receive receipt emails for the purchases.
- I opened a support chat and it was escalated, but I was told to expect a response “in the coming days.”
What I expected:
The credits should have been added to my existing personal Codex account/desktop app context, not placed into newly created workspaces.
Questions:
- Is it expected that buying Codex credits can create a new workspace?
- Are credits purchased into one workspace completely isolated from my personal Codex Desktop usage?
- Can OpenAI move these credits from the two extra workspaces into my personal Codex account?
- Is there a way for me to merge or delete the extra workspaces without losing the credits?
- Can Codex Desktop switch to a credit-holding workspace while preserving the same local project/thread?
- How can I tell which workspace a credit purchase will apply to before buying?
This is blocking active development work. I’m trying to avoid buying more credits into the wrong workspace again.
I can provide exact charge amounts, approximate purchase times, last 4 of the card, account email, workspace names, and screenshots privately to OpenAI Support if needed.
