Oh and I don’t mean a modified version of the MacOS app. As some packaging systems might provide you, submitted by community members. I mean the actual Linux App still in the works.
Please OpenAI, I am begging you, please release this app for linux!

I would like to ask whether there are any plans to release a native Linux desktop application for Codex.
I know that the Codex CLI is available on Linux, and that the Codex desktop app is currently available for macOS and Windows. However, as a Linux user, I would really appreciate having a native Codex desktop app as well.
I currently use Ubuntu 26.04 LTS for my development workflow, and many Linux users rely heavily on local development environments, containers, terminals, and open-source tooling. A native Linux desktop app would make Codex much more convenient and integrated for developers like me.
So I would like to ask:
Is a native Linux desktop app for Codex currently planned?
If it is planned, is there any estimated release date or roadmap?
Will Linux users be able to join an early access or beta program?
Thank you for your work on Codex. I would be very happy to see official Linux desktop support in the future.
The Linux goblins continue to observe this matter with interest and have reported the CLI is welcome. The app is still missing.
The CLI is appreciated. Truly. It is fast, useful, and very much at home in the terminal caves.
But the goblins must again note for the record:
CLI ≠ App
A native Linux Codex app would still be very very welcome.
Not because Linux users cannot use the CLI, many of us do, heavily, but because the app is a different workflow surface. It gives a different kind of continuity, visibility, session management, and desktop-native interaction than a terminal-only interface.
For a lot of developers, Linux is not a fringe environment. It is where the actual repo work lives. Ubuntu, Fedora, Arch, Debian and friends are full of people doing exactly the kind of local development, testing, review, and agentic coding work Codex is built for.
So yes: the goblins remain available.
They have sharpened their pipes, adjusted their terminal fonts, and politely request native Linux desktop support before morale deteriorates into further verse.

OpenAI has been spamming me to upgrade my subscription to use Codex.
When I did, I found out that I COULDN’T use Codex (the CLI option is garbage).
I can’t understand why OpenAI builds AI that can generate and port code, yet there isn’t a Linux version of one of its own applications.
Please get a distro-agnostic (stand-alone binary or AppImage) Linux version of your Codex UI.
Please don’t have Codex automatically scan or index my computer. Let me choose exactly which project, folder, ZIP file, or source files I want to share. If I don’t share it, Codex shouldn’t know it exists.
I’m a professional developer and imho the CLI is far from garbage! 
I work on both macOS and Windows (WSL Ubuntu) and in both cases the CLI is my go-to tool.
But sure, options are nice!
i just tried to register… it didn’t work in firefox nor in chromium… filled inputs, checked distros, clicked send button and the send button spins indefinitely

So now that they decided to move the Codex Desktop app into ChatGPT app (ChatGPT Codex/Work), we have to move our requests there ?
very good question because I’m not seeing 5.6 in the model selection for the CLI harness.
I just tried to sign up from multiple different browsers but the “Join the Codex app waitlist” button does not seem to action anything??
It appears that 5.6 is only available via the app.
mm “sign up to a waitlist” - I’ve been on that waitlist since the codex app was first announced.
It’s become a joke now. There -still- is no official Linux app, meanwhile we’re multiple models deep, multiple apps deep. The only option we have if some super dodgy unreliable deobfuscated fork that uses a flaky custom installer and requires installing .NET…
Please OpenAI… If this guy can provide a fork that mostly works, why can’t you guys use your army of engineers and AI to maintain your own version.

Is it this hard to release Linux builds from Electron apps? I mean, OpenAI could even hire the person at ilysenko/codex-desktop-linux for a day or two and millions of ChatGPT users will be happy.
It’s extremely fast and capable but does not support all the features of the app.
Man a lot time has passed… i wont lose hope tho.
