Codex OAuth account-specific “/add-phone” gate remains unresolved after Support escalation
Hello @OpenAI_Support,
I am posting here because I have an existing Codex authentication issue that has already been investigated and escalated by Support, but I have not received a substantive update since August 26.
Original Support case: 13481315
Re-escalated/current case: 13849667
The issue has been ongoing since August 20.
During the investigation, Support confirmed that being redirected to the “/add-phone” enrollment gate during Codex “Sign in with ChatGPT” is not expected behavior. Support also identified the behavior as appearing to be an account-specific authentication gate, and the issue was escalated to a support specialist.
My normal OpenAI/ChatGPT account access works, but Codex CLI and Codex Desktop remain unable to complete normal ChatGPT authentication because the OAuth flow is forced into the phone-enrollment gate.
I have already provided the requested diagnostics, including OS/version information, Codex versions, login testing, screenshots, and logs through the existing Support thread.
On August 26, the issue was re-escalated under case 13849667, with the message that a specialist would respond in the coming days. I have followed up since then, but have not yet received a further technical update.
Could someone from the Codex/Auth team please review the existing cases and confirm whether an account-specific authentication state or mitigation needs to be applied?
I can provide any additional private diagnostic or account information through the existing Support case.
Thank you.
