Clicking this icon in codex crashed my computer

I noticed that icon the first time consciously and thought “let’s see what it does”.

The Session was really long and I assume it is for splitting a thread?
And maybe because of the size of the conversation it might have caused my computer to use the remaining ~20 GB of RAM and that wasn’t enough? Anyways. Linux, Ubuntu, vscode - codex extension

Version 26.727.40816

Nothing serious .. a reboot and everything fine…

It creates a new Codex session from the current point so you can continue in a different direction without changing the original thread. Codex users and OpenAI’s repository describe this as “forking conversations.”

Mine completely froze yesterday when I was going to add a file. I needed to reset it :upside_down_face:

Yeah, I figured it.. but when I tried it in a very long session (probably 4 weeks working in same thread) my computer froze.

Err I mean I probably don’t leave that marked as a solution… I guess the real reason for this post was not to figure out what the icon does but to report a bug.

Yep, I did same-thing it basically copied a long form chat from that point. Then locked up, so I did a hard reboot and it was fine

You should repost it this one will close in 3 days

It’s documented and now you know so if it comes up you can tell folks.

lol idc about solutions
