I’m experiencing a reproducible ChatGPT Web bug with long outputs.
When GPT-5.6 Sol (High) generates a sufficiently long response, the response visibly finishes, but ChatGPT does not seem to recognize that the generation has completed.
When this happens:
- I cannot send another message.
- The copy/feedback controls below the response do not appear.
- The UI still behaves as though the response is generating.
- Sometimes the conversation remains titled “New Chat.”
- Reloading the page does not resolve it.
- If I manually click Stop, ChatGPT immediately recognizes the response as finished and the UI returns to normal.
Steps to reproduce
- Start a chat with GPT-5.6 Sol on High.
- Send a large prompt with a file attached that produces a long response.
- Wait for the response to visibly finish generating.
- The response content stops changing, but ChatGPT remains stuck in the generating state.
- Clicking Stop manually immediately finalizes the turn.
I have reproduced this in more than one conversation using the same input. It seems strongly correlated with long outputs; short responses generally do not trigger it, or only remain in this state briefly.
Environment
- Model: GPT-5.6 Sol — High
- Browser: Google Chrome
- OS: Windows 11
- VPN/proxy: None
- First noticed: August 30, 2026
I have also captured a screen recording and HAR file while reproducing the problem and tried to provide those privately to OpenAI Support, but their AI chat doesn’t support these files, and I don’t know where I should report the issue.
The issue still reproduces in:
- Normal Chrome
- Chrome Incognito
- Chrome after fully clearing all chatgpt site data/cache
Since the issue persists in Incognito and after clearing site data, it does not appear to be caused by cached browser data or a Chrome extension.
Has anyone else encountered this issue?
