I have no problem using it, but in my opinion, and I believe for the majority of the community, this should be allowed only by clearly asking. As someone who lives in a very irrelevant place politically and economically, I don’t want information based on my location. Please set an option to choose whether or not to provide information based on location. I do want information only relevant to U.S. big cities, and I have no interest in knowing what a mayor in a very small town in the middle of nowhere is doing because of my IP location or having answers tailored to my location. I want information relevant to today’s world, the same as someone in a major city of a developed area.
THANKS.
NOTE: I haven’t added any information related to my nearby area to the memory, except the state/province which cointain thousands of cities; the location details are based solely on IP tracking by OPENAI.
Please add an option, as X already has, to choose whether to find information based on location or not.
New web tool replaced to browser tool and it see IP location.
Thanks, Polepole. In this case, I am kindly requesting that OpenAI provide an option to disable location-based information. The majority of users don’t live in highly innovative areas where location-based news is relevant to their careers or businesses. Offering more globally-oriented search results would benefit users living in rural areas or abroad.
It’s way worse than the old browse tool, and even ignores locations specified in queries and prioritizes irrelevant, unwanted IP-based results, for example 4o with the new search tool:
GPT4 with the old Browse tool:
The same thing also happens in Temporary mode, so memory is not the issue here (I even have a memory “User is not in Singapore” and clearly the SearchGPT integration completely ignores that)
This is definitely reason enough to stop using gpt. I think it’s high time I started recommending new AIs to my followers.
