ChatGPT Project Source Files Are Readable but Can’t Be Downloaded or Accessed in Library

I’m running into what looks like a ChatGPT Projects / Library file reference bug.

Files stored under Project → Sources are still present and can be opened/read normally inside the project. However:

  • Trying to download those files from Project Sources returns:
{
  "detail": "Not found."
}

  • The same files are also not accessible through Library.

  • The files themselves do not appear to be deleted, because their contents can still be opened and used from inside the project.

  • This affects multiple source files, not just one file or file type.

This makes it look like the Project still has access to the file contents or an internal representation, while the downloadable/storage object or its Library reference is missing or out of sync.

I have not removed the files from the project, since I don’t want to risk losing the remaining accessible copies.

Has anyone else encountered Project Source files that remain readable but return {"detail":"Not found."} when downloading and are unavailable from Library?

It would also be helpful to know whether there is a way to force Project Sources to resync with Library without deleting/re-uploading the original sources.

Same. Started yesterday for me. I sent support a ticket with my har file and a video screenshot. Still waiting for it to be resolved.

Also opened a support ticket:

Escalated to a support specialist; You can expect a response in the coming days. Replies will also be sent via email.

My issue is impacting all project files, attempting to view or download. This is true of older content and freshly uploaded content. ‘Library’ content is still working. Verified across multiple devices, operating systems, and networks.

Same issue here since Aug 16 — Project Sources open and read fine inside the project, but downloading returns {"detail": "Not found."} and the files don’t show in Library. Affects multiple files across file types; I’ve left the sources in place rather than risk re-uploading.

Yep, same here. I too noticed the problem around Aug 16, though not all my Sources are affected. Anything before Jun 10 is accessible on my side, but everything from that day onward returns a {“detail”: “not found”} error and a 404 when I try to download the affected files. I haven’t forwarded this issue to a specialist yet, since I just can’t find the time for it, but I’ve done a few test file uploads to confirm that the model is still able to see, read, and recite all data verbatim. So this issue seems to be on the user side. Any new upload immediately returns the same errors. But yeah, I’m also not touching any Source files, just to be on the safe side.

Support specialist has not reached out, but it does appear that ‘download’ functionality has been restored. I’m not able to ‘view’ the file content, it automatically redirects to a download action. Not a significant impact to my workflow at this point.

Can confirm. Try opening the files via Library, that should work. I think the download action from Sources has always been a thing on desktop, if I remember correctly. Sources do open normally on my tablet.
