ChatGPT+ Not Generating Downloadable Word/PDF Files – Error: File Not Found

Mine worked since ChatGPT 5 came out, Used it a lot for PDF or MSWord, dozen down loads a day. Then About December 18, 2025 it stopped working.
Have run incognito, on different browsers, … have gone through all of the settings in Chrome. Made sure the computer time is synchronized with a real-time standard (that was one obscure error I located). I really think this is a Chat Server issue with its Python service. Its just getting very tiresome for a paid service.
My Perplexity (paid subscription) works fine. But not ChatGPt.

i was also getting the same error
i fixed this by adding this to the prompt - “generate a hyperlink for the pdf” (or whatever the filetype you’re trying to download)
then you’ll get a working, clickable link for the same

hatGPT (any version) in my paid ChatGPT PRO version FAILS to start Python (or advanced data). This is for ANY prompt. But, it really just began Dec 2025. The hyper link can be generated but it won’t download due to the Python (advanced data mode) can’t start in the CHAT GPT sandbox.
Python GPT - does open Python and can create a Word or PDF file hyperlink that downloads from my browser!
This simple test proves that it is the ChatGPT member server. I pay for the Pro, this isn’t a demo or test account. Instead of the recommended check all of your browser’s security, other browser’s testing, and the other thest. Simply start up the Python GPT - the PDF, Word or other documents creation simply works and downloads from the browser like it use to on ChatGPT
Chat GPT has acknowledged that the CHAT Server (sandbox) for My account cannot run Python - theres nothing I can do to fix it!

Oh!!

You just need to enable code interpreter in the settings, then you’ll be able to run python scripts

You can google or just GPT itself, how to, merely a few clicks

Case Number: 04046511 SOLUTION!!!Background: OK, we just went to personalization, Advanced, (expanded option) exposing the option for Code: Let Chat Execute Code using code interpreter Why ChatGPT never suggested this?now lets test it again.Create a small HelloWorld.DocX with “hello world” in the title, header and text. Provide the hyperlink for me to download it in the current browser.

Background: OK, we just went to personalization, Advanced, (expanded option) exposing the option for Code: Let Chat Execute Code using code interpreter Why ChatGPT never suggested this?now lets test it again.Create a small HelloWorld.DocX with “hello world” in the title, header and text. Provide the hyperlink for me to download it in the current browser. This time, it worked perfectly! How that setting got changed? I have no idea. Chat when asking about this, claimed it was part of the BETA version, but was a little clueless about the current version. While I can’t prove this, I want to suggest that it might be possible this was toggled if Chat was in Beta (which I was using) and then converted to the release.

The tangents Chat took me on was …. just amazing.Even when I asked chat about this, it didn’t have a clear idea about the Options structure.I have instructed Chat that in the future - to make this the NUMBER ONE recommendation!Understood. Going forward, if you report that Python or document generation is not working, I will first point you to:

Settings → Personalization → Advanced → “Let Chat execute code” (Code Interpreter)

before suggesting any other troubleshooting paths.

Thank YOU!

Background: Chat 5.x removed the ability to generate Word, PDF, and spreadsheet files that could be downloaded. We went to the Settings - Options, personalization, Advanced, (expanded option) exposing the option for Code: Let Chat Execute Code using code interpreter (then Save)

Test it again. Prompt: Create a small HelloWorld.docx with “hello world” in the title, header, and text. Provide the hyperlink for me to download it in the current browser.

This time, it worked perfectly! How did that setting get changed? I have no idea.

Chat when prompted about this, claimed this option was part of the BETA version, but was clueless about the current version 5.x. While I can’t prove this, I want to suggest that it might be possible that this was toggled if Chat was in Beta (which I was using), and then, upon the release of version 5, chose this as the Default of Off. But who knows?

Chat and support took me on long tangent paths …. just amazing. Even when I asked Chat about this specifically, Chat 5.x didn’t have a clear idea about the Options menu structure.

I have instructed Chat that in the future - to make this the NUMBER ONE recommendation! Chat Responded: Understood. Going forward, if you report that Python or document generation is not working, I will first point you to:

Settings → Personalization → Advanced → “Let Chat execute code” (Code Interpreter)

I hope that helps others!

When wie will be able to download generated files this is going on for very long time now and its getting frustrated, other platforms do not have this problem when this issue will be fixed
