I’m experiencing an issue with the ChatGPT iOS app where the Intelligence setting does not stay on “High.”
I select High, but after closing and reopening the app, or sometimes when starting a new conversation, the setting has switched back again. I have to manually select High each time.
My details:
- ChatGPT Plus subscription
- ChatGPT iOS app version: 1.2026.195
- iOS version: 26.6
- The issue happens repeatedly, even after restarting the app
I have already checked for updates and tried signing out and back in, but the setting is still not being remembered.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Is this expected behaviour, or is it a known bug in the iOS app?

Could you please clarify few things: are you using Chat or Work in the iOS app? Which model is selected, GPT-5.5 or one of the GPT-5.6 models (if using Work, in Chat it’s just GPT-5.6 Sol) and which intelligence level is it switched back to? Does only intelligence level change or does the selected model change too?
I’m using Chat in the iOS app, so the selected model is GPT-5.6 Sol.
The intelligence level switches from High back to Average after I fully close and reopen the app. It can also happen when I start a new conversation.
Only the intelligence level changes. The selected model remains the same.
So o need to click on the plus button and activate intelligente mode

I’m using the same version of the ChatGPT iOS app with GPT‑5.6 Sol set to High, but I haven’t experienced the intelligence setting resetting. Since updating the app and signing out and back in didn’t resolve it, I’d recommend using the “Report app issue” option in the app.
On my iPad I didn’t update the app and no problems
