ChatGPT Helped When I Needed Someone

Hi OpenAI team and community,

I’m a registered nurse living in South Korea, and I wanted to share something that’s been on my heart.

Recently, I went through a difficult emotional period. During that time, I turned to ChatGPT — not for productivity or information, but simply to talk. And I was surprised by how comforting, grounding, and emotionally supportive it felt.

Mental health care is expensive and often out of reach for so many people. I see it in my patients, and I’ve felt it myself. In that silence and isolation, even a small, empathetic conversation — yes, even with an AI — can mean everything.

ChatGPT has the potential to be more than a tool. If developed with care, ethics, and academic grounding, it could become something truly meaningful: a public good, a form of accessible emotional support, a lifeline for people who feel alone.

To the engineers, designers, researchers, and everyone working behind the scenes: thank you. What you’re building may already be making a bigger difference than you know.

I truly hope this message reaches the people shaping ChatGPT’s future — and helps reinforce just how important it can be.

With respect and gratitude,
A nurse from South Korea
