same issue here. When I ask for something it keeps giving me the wait or exit page option
New here and not sure if this post is helpful ***
Same issue here even on the plus plan. GPT is so useful that I will put up with it just wondering where to watch for a fix?
same here..
the weird part is that it seems to work in app but freezes on desktop (using Brave Browser)
Same problem here.
I have a chat that generates long reports with graphs and after some itterations it became laggy until it crash my chrome tab. I need to reload but it happens very often.
I try to delete some old report but it did not work. You need to find a solution for that soon…
For what it’s worth, I can duplicate on Firefox/Ubuntu, Chrome/Ubuntu and Firefox/macOS. The latter seems to be able to “recover” on its own, though, where it really struggles under Linux and I’m forced to refresh the page. When I did some profiling, I saw extremely long time to first byte waits while seemingly trying to load sidebar items, but that may be a red herring.
Edit: it’s now freezing completely on Firefox/macOS.
I am curious to know if the OpenAI team is reviewing the content their customers are generating. Furthermore, I wonder if they are aware of the potential for customer attrition.
Just purchased Plus and its slower than it was for free… why did I bother?
Same here. It’s still an issue, and in my case it’s a NEW issue. It wasn’t this bad before 5 came out. Fine-ish on mobile though. What’s interesting is I’m comparing it to Claude, Claude eats roughly the same amount of memory, but with no noticeable freezing.
I’ve been using the so called premium version of ChatGPT, and one issue that continues to frustrate me is the app freezing or appearing stuck while generating commands/content.
It’s hard to tell whether the app is still processing or if it has actually frozen. Honestly, it’s disappointing that this has been a persistent issue and still hasn’t been fully resolved.
Suggestion:
At the very least, please introduce a proper loading screen or progress indicator so users know the system is working in the background. This small addition would go a long way in improving user experience and avoiding the constant confusion of “is it stuck or still working?”
As paying users, we expect a smoother experience, and this is one of the basics that should already be in place.
I am facing the same issue.
its freezing a lot.
This has been happening again. I force clear the cache and it will eventually come back, but if it was generating downloadable content, that content is lost which forces the rebuild of the content. It has been getting worse over the last two weeks.
OS: Fedora Workstation 42
Browser: Firefox, Chrome, Edge
I may have found the root cause of this. If you are asking ChatGPT to generate complex answers, (code etc.) there seems to be a buffer that GPT encounters with most browsers. I discovered that by setting these in the project settings and even in just general chat questions that GPT became mush more responsive and stopped the browsers from ‘freezing’, as it were.
Recommended limits (safe defaults)
- Inline code (total per message): max 120 lines or 10 KB, whichever comes first.
- Inline code (per block): max 40 lines.
- Number of files inline: max 3 files per message.
- Zip payloads: max 250 KB uncompressed size across all files.
- No binaries/base64 inline, ever.
It’s October 2025 and I’m still facing the same issue, and my machine is pretty fast too so it’s not an issue with my hardware specs.
thanks, this helps a lot. Its the solution for the current situation
Same problem with me too. It is getting harder and harder to GPT on windows. No point in buying a subscription.
Windows 11 Chrome/Edge/Desktop app still have the problem. It’s gotten worse in the last few days. Every response = a freezing.
Same things here, lots of crash freeze**. Ryzen9-64go Ram**….And Too many concurrent requests…In paid version ! Please update !
I have this problem for whole year , solution is to use lazy load . But their devs don’t listen to us.
Same issue. Every response results in a freeze.
