ChatGPT cannot download generated ZIP artifacts (/mnt/data download failure)

Hello,

I am experiencing a repeated issue with ChatGPT generated files.

Whenever ChatGPT generates a ZIP artifact and provides a download link, the download fails.

The interface either stays stuck on “Starting download…” or shows the error:

“Failed to fetch upload status for /mnt/data/.zip”

Example error:

Failed to fetch upload status for /mnt/data/TRADER_SAAS_V8_ENGINE_COMPLETE_DOCKER.zip

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Ask ChatGPT to generate a ZIP file
  2. ChatGPT creates the artifact
  3. A download button appears
  4. Clicking the button fails to start the download

Environment:
Browser: Chrome
OS: Windows
Platform: ChatGPT Web

This happens repeatedly across multiple sessions and different files.

It appears the issue may be related to the artifact download pipeline from the sandbox path (/mnt/data).

Could the team please investigate the artifact download system?

I have the same problem, i cant download zips or other documents extensions except image

I am facing the same issue with file download. It happens with zip, pdf, and docx.

I have tried:
ChatGPT Windows App
Chrome
Brave
Edge

I hope that OpenAI fixes it soon. I have wasted a few hours trying to fix it.

Trying various browsers (including incognito/private), clearing caches, and uninstalling and reinstalling the ChatGPT Windows Desktop App.

The only thing that works at this time is to download the file from my iPhone app. Needless to say that it is really cumbersome to download on iPhone and then transfer to my desktop. But it is a workaround that has at least provided me some progress. Sharing here so others can benefit.

Try to install Safari Browser and try there, hope this will works!!!

Yes, thank you for sharing the link.

The current workaround is to download on mobile via app and then forward the files to the desktop device.

I also found myself using cloud storage to transfer files.

I have the same issue and found the mobile download working. This is very frustrating. The last week chatGPT has been very buggy, like sudden whitescreen on windows app, having to reload just to have it crash again, web interface crashing a lot. I dont get whats going on. I hope its just a temporary fluke, if this keeps up I will most likely move away to another.
