ChatGPT can’t access the Python/container runtime in this session, so it fails to generate files like .pptx, even though this worked before.
When I ask it to create a slideshow or PowerPoint, it returns errors saying the Python/container/file-generation tools failed in the session, such as:
• “I couldn’t generate the actual PPTX file in this run because the PPTX/container tools are currently failing in the session.”
• “The Python/container runtime in this session is failing.”
Steps to reproduce:
- Start a chat
- Ask for a PPTX/slideshow/power point file
- Ask ChatGPT to generate the .pptx
- It fails with Python/container/session errors
I already tried:
• New chat
• Refresh
• Retry
Same result every time.
Is anyone else seeing this after GPT-5.4, or is it just me? OpenAI Status shows the Feb 25 artifact-generation incident as resolved, but I’m still having this issue: Artifact generation (asking the model to generate a spreadsheet or slideshow) on ChatGPT is down for all users. - OpenAI Status
That’s odd. Generating PPTX files should be working, and I’m not seeing a current incident affecting file generation.
I just tested on my end and was able to generate a .pptx successfully, so it doesn’t look like a widespread outage right now.
A couple things that would help narrow this down:
- Is this happening in a regular chat or inside a custom GPT?
- Which model are you using?
- Have you tried switching to a different model to see if it behaves the same?
- If possible, can you share a screenshot of the exact error message?
That should help figure out whether this is model-specific or something session-related.

I am having the same problem here. I am using chatgpt 5.4 Extended Thinking mode within a project space with external memory turned off. Cant generate docx or pptx files directly. However if i ask it to generate using canvas it can. and I can download the docx file.
Error message I am getting:
Important constraint (why you are not getting a .pptx attachment in this message)
I attempted to generate the .pptx in this environment, but all file-generation runtimes are currently failing with ClientResponseError, including the tools required to run PptxGenJS and export a PowerPoint.
So I cannot physically attach the built .pptx from here in this same response.

Thanks, this happens in a regular Project chat with project-only memory, not a custom GPT. I’m on ChatGPT Plus using GPT-5.4 Extended Thinking.
I can reproduce it consistently. Direct in-chat file generation fails for .pptx and sometimes .docx, with errors mentioning ClientResponseError or Python/container file-generation runtime failures.
having the same issue. This streaming nonsense needs to stop.
I believe deep research is also affected in projects, it can not access/reference uploaded files/ or project files…
