For first message, edit button is still gone for me at this moment. (In all of three different browsers tried.)
This is making ChatGPT unusable for me - would be great to at least have a confirmation that this is considered a bug and will be fixed.
(The edit button has disappeared before, e.g. 15 feb this year - which caused a user uproar. There were hacky workarounds back then, but these don’t seem to work this time.)
@OpenAI_Support some of us can edit from the second message onwards but not the first, is that a permanent feature or still the bug? If it’s permanent, it’s not ideal
for what I’ve checked, all of my old chats lost the option to edit first message. This is really bad because I usually branch from that message and this way im losing hundreds of messages
If you’re not seeing the Edit button on a message, it’s not always a bug—there are several reasons it might not show up. For example, the button won’t appear if:
It’s not your turn to reply
You’re not logged in
The message was blocked or flagged
You’re already editing a message
The conversation is in a special mode (like a multimodal thread)
If you think the Edit button should be showing but isn’t, please share steps to reproduce the issue so we can figure out what’s going on. 😊
If they wanna make it so that first messages to a conversation can’t be edited anymore then fine. Even though I think it’s a bad idea, it isn’t gonna kill anyone.
But at least let us be able to scroll the first messages of old chats, many responses are gonna disappear if it’s kept like this.
Weird if it’s an intentional feature though because you can still edit first messages in the app.
Thank you for confirming. Would you mind re-confirming how this issue pops up for you all? Any specific repro steps? We're having a hard time replicating the issue after the fix, so any details you have would be much appreciated!
Only the edit button for the first message is still not there but everything else seeoms to work just fine. until that’s fixed i’ll just send a “Dummy” first message then do what I need to do
