Feature Request: ChatGPT as a Proactive Personal Opportunity Guardian
I would like to suggest a feature that could make ChatGPT feel much more like a long-term personal AI partner rather than an assistant that only responds when the user asks a question.
The idea
I would like ChatGPT to be able to understand a user’s long-term situation, goals, skills, education, career interests, financial constraints, preferred countries, and other information the user explicitly chooses to share.
Then, with the user’s permission, ChatGPT could continuously look for new opportunities that are relevant to that specific person and proactively notify them when a strong match appears.
The key idea is:
Instead of the user constantly searching for opportunities, relevant opportunities could find the user.
Example
Imagine I tell ChatGPT:
- I am looking for scholarships.
- I want to study filmmaking or technology.
- I cannot afford expensive tuition.
- I am interested in Germany, Europe, and other countries.
- I want programs taught in English.
- I am also looking for jobs related to photography, filmmaking, design, or technology.
- I have specific education, skills, and eligibility requirements.
Today, ChatGPT can help me search when I ask.
But imagine that I search today and there is no suitable scholarship.
Tomorrow, a new scholarship is announced that matches my education, financial situation, field of study, nationality/eligibility, language requirements, and preferred destination.
Instead of me having to remember to ask ChatGPT again, ChatGPT could notify me:
“I found a new scholarship that matches the criteria you told me about. Applications are now open, and the deadline is in 6 weeks.”
The same could work for jobs.
If I tell ChatGPT that I am looking for a job requiring English, photography experience, or a specific technical skill, ChatGPT could notify me when a strong matching position becomes available.
Why this is different from a normal reminder
This should not simply be another reminder or scheduled search.
A normal reminder is:
“Search for scholarships every Monday.”
What I am proposing is:
“Understand what I am trying to achieve, understand what makes an opportunity suitable for me, continuously look for meaningful opportunities, evaluate them against my profile, and notify me when something genuinely relevant appears.”
The AI would need to understand the person, not just the search query.
Possible system
I imagine the feature having several layers:
1. Personal Opportunity Profile
The user could voluntarily provide information such as:
- Education
- Skills
- Work experience
- Career goals
- Study goals
- Countries of interest
- Preferred languages
- Financial limitations
- Visa requirements
- Salary expectations
- Industries of interest
- Long-term goals
The user should have complete control over what is stored and used.
2. Goal Tracking
ChatGPT could understand goals such as:
“I want to study filmmaking abroad within the next two years.”
or:
“I want to find a job in Europe.”
or:
“I want to find funding to start my business.”
These goals could remain active until the user changes, pauses, or deletes them.
3. Opportunity Discovery
With permission, ChatGPT could periodically search relevant sources for:
- Scholarships
- Jobs
- Internships
- Grants
- Fellowships
- Competitions
- Training programs
- Business funding
- Accelerators
- Remote opportunities
- Other opportunities relevant to the user’s goals
4. Intelligent Matching
Finding an opportunity would not automatically mean notifying the user.
ChatGPT should evaluate:
Does this actually match this person’s situation?
For example:
Opportunity found → Check education → Check country eligibility → Check language → Check financial requirements → Check field → Check deadline → Calculate relevance → Notify if sufficiently relevant.
This could greatly reduce irrelevant notifications.
5. Proactive Notification
When a strong match appears, ChatGPT could send something like:
New opportunity found
This scholarship matches your study goal, English-language preference, education level, and financial requirements.
Deadline: November 30.
Would you like me to check the eligibility requirements and help you prepare the application?
This would make ChatGPT proactive instead of completely reactive.
User control and privacy
This feature should be completely opt-in.
Users should be able to control:
- Which goals ChatGPT monitors
- Which countries it monitors
- Which types of opportunities it searches for
- How frequently it searches
- Minimum relevance threshold
- Notification frequency
- Quiet hours
- Whether notifications are enabled at all
- Which personal information can be used for matching
- Pause/resume monitoring
- Delete individual goals
- Delete the entire opportunity profile
Nothing should be submitted to an employer, university, government, or organization without explicit user approval.
Why I think this could be important for ChatGPT
Many people miss life-changing opportunities simply because they did not know the opportunity existed at the right time.
A scholarship can open for only a few weeks.
A job can receive hundreds of applications.
A grant can have a short deadline.
A fellowship may only be announced once a year.
People often have to repeatedly search dozens of websites to avoid missing these opportunities.
ChatGPT could potentially become the layer that connects a person’s goals with the constantly changing world around them.
Instead of:
User → Search → Find information → Evaluate → Remember deadline
it could become:
User → Tell ChatGPT what they are trying to achieve → ChatGPT monitors → Finds relevant opportunity → Matches it to the user → Notifies the user → Helps them act
The bigger vision
I think this could move ChatGPT toward something much more personal.
Not just:
“Ask me anything.”
But:
“Tell me where you want to go, and with your permission, I’ll help you notice opportunities that can get you there.”
Over time, ChatGPT could become a personal opportunity intelligence system for each user.
The important part is that the AI should not make decisions for the user. It should help the user avoid missing opportunities.
I understand that parts of this idea may overlap with existing capabilities such as Tasks, Memory, search, and proactive notifications. My suggestion is to connect these capabilities into a single goal-aware opportunity matching system centered around the individual user’s long-term objectives.
I believe this could be a powerful direction for ChatGPT.
Thank you for considering the idea.
