How many of an NFL football teams have never went to the Super Bowl
As of my knowledge cutoff date of September 2021, there were 12 NFL teams that had never won a Super Bowl championship. These teams are:
- Arizona Cardinals
- Atlanta Falcons
- Buffalo Bills
- Carolina Panthers
- Cincinnati Bengals
- Cleveland Browns
- Detroit Lions
- Houston Texans
- Los Angeles Chargers
- Minnesota Vikings
- Tennessee Titans (formerly the Houston Oilers)
- San Diego Chargers (now the Los Angeles Chargers)
It’s worth noting that some of these teams have appeared in a Super Bowl but have never won one. For example, the Buffalo Bills have appeared in four Super Bowls but have never won a championship.

I said “went to” not “won”
I apologize for misunderstanding your question. As of my knowledge cutoff date of September 2021, there were 16 NFL teams that had never made an appearance in the Super Bowl. These teams are:
- Arizona Cardinals
- Atlanta Falcons
- Buffalo Bills
- Carolina Panthers
- Cincinnati Bengals
- Cleveland Browns
- Detroit Lions
- Houston Texans
- Jacksonville Jaguars
- Los Angeles Chargers
- Minnesota Vikings
- New York Jets
- Detroit Lions
- San Diego Chargers (now the Los Angeles Chargers)
- Seattle Seahawks
- Tennessee Titans (formerly the Houston Oilers)
It’s worth noting that some of these teams were not founded at the time of the first Super Bowl in 1967, so they couldn’t have participated in it. Additionally, some of these teams have had success in other postseason games or in different eras of NFL history.

The real answer is 4 teams. I said “went” chat used “won”. And then it changes to answer the “played” and it still is wrong.
I can usually get the right answer at some point by clarifying his mistakes. But the next morning I have to same question we start all over again nothing better.
