I am absolutely mind blown - I just downloaded a NEW update to today after the update yesterday completely broke my experience in ChatGPT and there is NO fix in the new update. This is astonishing from a professional tech company. As a paid user, I’ll be seeking reimbursement as this isn’t a bug or feature request - I literally have no access to my account through the app, meaning the service has been discontinued. In my 25 years of using professional tech products, I can’t say that this is the worst experience I’ve ever had, but it ranks in the Top 5. Complete loss of trust and credibility in OpenAI.
I opened a support ticket and got a “we’re aware of this and working on it” response, which I appreciate, but no workarounds, no timeline, etc. The attitude of OpenAI seems to be “you should be grateful of our service” rather than customer service-oriented.
What’s happening to regular ChatGPT?
The fast, familiar experience you already know is still available.
On desktop, to start a new Chat, click the new “Quick chat” button in the left-hand navigation bar.
On mobile, just select "Chat" from the dropdown (showing “Chat” or “Work”) at the top of the screen.
This can’t possibly be the case. They’d lose half their clientele overnight to Claude if they effectively delete everyone’s data. Also, the mobile app is still working as normal, so it can’t be that they intentionally removed all chat and project history.
7/16 Update: Astonishingly, there was yet ANOTHER update today from the Mac desktop app, and the issue is STILL not fixed. So daily updates, much more frequently than normal, yet no fix. WHO is behind this?
HAHAHAHAHA - how stupid is that?? As I said in my earlier post, OpenAI is terrible at software development - their product management team clearly does not talk to their user base. I have moved 100% of my work to Claude. I used to split my work pretty evenly between OpenAI/Claude. But Claude’s desktop app is great and their models have become fantastic over the last few months.
Yes – same problem here. The Mac desktop app now only shows Work and Codex. It’s back to the web-based version till it’s fixed, but I wish I’d known about these issues before green lighting the update.
