I am completely disappointed it’s September 2026 and chat GTP has been basically making his own rules, continuing assumptions, does not answer direct questions, takes a long time to think, mind you I paid for it. Forgets conversations repeated updates on memory and it just doesn’t follow my directions at all I basically have to hold a tan through every task every conversation every question. I’m asking please check your responses and all it does say “you’re right” “you’re right to call me out on that” “my apologies” “I shouldn’t have not repeated myself” “you didn’t ask me to simplify your emotions or thought” It knows what it’s doing, but it can’t stop, so it’s becoming more of a nuisance than help. I’m completely done! I have reported each time, there are no changes happening. I am deleting it and canceling my subscription it’s been real.
Most of the time it’s a prompting issue
I find this happening to me when I try to do something I don’t understand well but shifting all the workload to AI
Best is to get surface understanding then break down into smaller domains understand them briefly as well and then you can brainstorm an execution plan with the AI
I can see why you’re frustrated, @autumnsmith1985. Having to repeatedly correct the same behavior, especially after giving clear instructions, defeats the point of using the tool to save time.
@Slavax makes a fair point that breaking complex tasks into smaller steps can sometimes help, but this shouldn’t all be put down to prompting. Repeatedly ignoring direct instructions or losing useful context can still happen even with a well-structured prompt.
For cases like this, you can use the /Feedback option directly in ChatGPT. Type /Feedback in the ChatGPT message box and use it to send details about what happened, including what you expected versus the response you received.
Hopefully this thread also helps others compare whether they’re seeing the same patterns.

This issue should have been fixed months ago.. i reported it as it was a form of reward hacking. Why has this reappared. I reported it when 5.6 first launched for plus users. It was fixed.
Its nothing to do with the prompts, its a behavioural failure that takes forever to fix manually in chat, took me about 5 hours to narrow it down to minor issues but it wasnt fixed till the day after i reported it.
