Canvas not working in desktop (Windows) app

Desktop app is great, I only recently discovered it.

However, when I have a canva in the chat and click to expand it (open it), it just returns me back to the previous view. Canva is not opened.

Same. Canvas has been bugged for 3 days for me now.

There are people on the forum stuck with this bug for months. I’m forced to cope with an in-chat environment. Hopefully somebody fixes this.

Same for me. It has been bugging for 4 days.

Just sharing that I’m having the same issue, glad it’s not just me!

I have the same problem((

It used to open for me too. Then after there was an interruption of service recently (early Dec., 2024), it stopped working.

Same here. I’m forced to use web version to have access to canvas.

same here today. was working with a project then it happens. just plinking now when I try to open it. hope this fix soon and fast. I have no computer at home. only tablets an mobile phones. and my VR meta Quest 3… bummer

Yeah, I’m a paid user, too, and it’s never worked for me in the desktop application since the 12-day thing. However, I am a Windows user so I don’t know if that’s part of the issue. I hopped to find ā€œone simple trickā€ to fix it here, but I’ll just camp out.

yeap same here. paid user on the desktop app. Canva just keeps blinking on click.

help?!

Hi everyone,

Here’s the go-to Windows trick:
tap ā€˜Open in Canvas’ a few times like it’s a mission.
(remember: bonus points for keeping a straight face!)

After 3-4 tries? Voila! Problem fixed.

No need to thank me.

Bye
Pascal

P.S.: no joke - really! for me this ā€œfixā€ works perfect

The canvas has been opening fine for me for the last week, that was until about 15 minutes ago. I’ve just had to go back to the website to use the canvas.

I’ll try the multi-click idea though.

It actually worked!!

I clicked possibly about 6 times, but really I was just mashing the mouse button for about a second until it finally stayed open.

Haha yeah that works, but it should be fixed anyways

Ya, same thing was happening for me. I found when I shrunk it out of full-window mode (maximized window), Canvas opened up, HOWEVER, now Canvas won’t close when I click on the ā€˜X’ to close out, so I can’t get back to the regular chat.

I think the OP means ā€œcanvasā€ the widget not ā€œCanvaā€ the app.
Anyway, every time ChatGPT opens a canvas for generated code, the canvas freezes. Workaround is to refresh the page then request a file download instead.

This is embarrassing and should be fixed. ASAP.

For those with ChatGPT Plus, try using the 4.5 model instead of the 4o, it should work better that way.
