Can Linux Codex users redeem banked rate-limit resets?

I’m trying to clarify the practical impact of the newly announced Codex rate-limit reset banking.

From the public materials I can find:

  • OpenAI’s Codex changelog lists “rate-limit reset banking” under Codex app 26.609, released 11 June 2026.
  • The feature is described as available to eligible Plus and Pro users, including one free reset at launch.
  • The Codex documentation distinguishes between Codex CLI, the Codex desktop app, and Codex Web.
  • I cannot find a documented Codex CLI command or web-only redemption path for viewing or applying a banked reset.
  • There is now an open GitHub issue reporting that Linux Codex users using CLI/VS Code cannot access or redeem banked usage resets.
  • A related request for CLI or web redemption was closed as a duplicate, and notes that as of Codex CLI 0.139.0 there is no visible way to view or redeem banked resets from the CLI.

That creates a practical problem.

If OpenAI applies a quota reset directly server-side, Linux users benefit normally. No special UI is required.

But if the reset is delivered as a banked reset that must be manually redeemed through the Codex desktop app, then Linux-only users appear to have an account-level entitlement that they cannot actually use.

That is not just a cosmetic UX issue. It affects whether Linux Codex customers receive the same benefit as macOS and Windows customers.

So the questions are:

  1. Is there currently a supported way for Linux users to view and redeem banked Codex resets?

  2. If the answer is “use the Codex desktop app”, what is the supported path for Linux users, given that the desktop app is not available on Linux?

  3. If no Linux redemption surface currently exists, will OpenAI either:

    • apply the launch/compensation reset server-side for affected Linux users;

    • expose redemption in Codex Web;

    • add a CLI command such as /usage, /limits, or /redeem-reset; or

    • extend expiry until Linux users have a supported redemption path?

The key concern is simple:

If “we reset your quota” has become “we gave you a banked reset”, and the only way to redeem that reset is through a non-Linux app surface, then Linux users have not practically received the reset.

Can OpenAI clarify the intended support path?
