I actually think Open AI should allow free users to join but with the data security of the team plan a smaller monthly charge where they get free tier usage and limits but can see the company projects and GPTs and data mining not allowed unless permitted as per the team plan. Another simple goldmine opportunity.
Enterprise is just too expensive for smaller businesses and provide so many unnecessary features a small business would never use plus the minimum license count!
Hey @john.sloan, I hear you. This request has come up a few times and the use case makes sense.
Right now, ChatGPT Business (previously Teams) does not support mixing different subscriptions within the same workspace. Pro is an individual subscription, while Business and Enterprise are workspace level subscriptions, so you cannot assign Pro to just one member as a “Power User.”
I understand why that feels like a gap for smaller teams with one heavy user who needs higher limits or deeper capabilities but does not require a full Enterprise setup. There is no add on like this today, but I will make sure this thread is captured as recurring product feedback since it has been raised consistently over time.
Any update to this yet with the new pro-codex subscription release?
I would also like to upgrade 2 out of my 5 accounts to pro. I don’t want to grab one seperately because I don’t want to lose the contexts and everything.
I’m with @InfraBoy here, why don’t you let us upgrade individual team accounts to pro? This is non sense. I want to give you more money but can’t without creating a separate account? Now i just keep going back to Anthropic because I’m running out of tokens
Is upgrading individual Business users to a higher ChatGPT subscription level (e.g. Pro 5x) something that would be possible now, given that there are already two seat subscription types available for users in a Business account? We’ve currently got the option of either the PAYG Codex seat or the $25/mo ChatGPT seat.
It doesn’t seem like a stretch to offer a higher-cost Pro seat under the Business plan, like Anthropic does currently.
The entire company I work at has all of their engineers on Anthropic, I’m the only exception.
And although it shouldn’t be my concern as an Engineer; it does nonetheless greatly bother me that everyone is willingly entering into vendor lock-in. (Especially around Anthropic’s software stack.)
The lack of Pro seats is one of the contributing factors. ~10M tokens/5h for GPT-5.5 at standard cache hit rates just doesn’t cut it for daily work.
You have to either resort to GPT-5.4-mini, getting an inferior experience, or going for API Credits, where unpredictable billing can be a hard sell.
Compliance wants verified vendors; and don’t want devs to use own tools. So folks like I are either stuck with Anthropic/Google (where I don’t want to be), or with too restricting limits.
Folks who want to use Open Source tools and harnesses are screwed.
