Can an admin see my history if I use ChatGPT Teams at work (workspace)?

Hello, I think I might be fired in the coming days. I uploaded a document containing confidential information to chat gpt teams workspace. Can an admin see that?

That could be yes or no. if your thread was flagged for a violation of proprietary documents, that would trigger a flag within the system and depending on the issue, a third party will likely review your thread for audit. But it is also important to note that uploaded files are stored in temporary memory; they are session-bound, therefore, there is a high probability that your uploaded documents will be pruned or deleted from the system. Perhaps you can request to delete your data.

Thank you so much, you are saving my sleep tonight. But is there a possibility of an admin seeing my chat history aka what I talk to chat gpt that i access through chat gpt wokspace with an employers domain. I do not know if we have access through API platform, which I read it can let admin or owners what the history is?

Tell your manager if you haven’t done so. Be honest. Never sweep this kind of thing under the carpet. If your management is any good they will handle the situation and not freak out. Everyone makes mistakes. To err is to be human. They should appreciate your honesty and your recognition of a mistake. That should built trust, not harm it.

If you don’t tell your manager and they find out another way however …

Can you just tell me how can they find out?

If by that you are hoping they won’t find out and you don’t intend to tell them, then I’m out. Good luck.

I understand. I am sorry. I am scared to death, and just looking for some comfort. I am also planning on telling after the weekend so I can prepare and tell everyone at home. Like you said, we are all humans.

Honestly it will be better to rip the band aid off and tell your management.

If you are fired, then they weren’t worth working for: you made a genuine mistake and you didn’t deliberately set out to harm the company.

Your management needs to make sure the data is not used for training purposes and I think thats default for Teams.

Thank you. I can’t believe this is not a dream.

My friend, we’ve all been there. Made mistakes. Messed up. The important thing is to learn and build trust.

I just started working as well. And we got the paid version on Tuesday. I can’t believe this.

Just to point out that it is also your company’s responsibility to provide staff with reasonable guard rails. So it may be a learning process for everyone.

“Within your organization, only end users can view their conversations. Workspace admins have control over workspaces and access. Our access to conversations stored on our systems is limited to (1) authorized employees that require access for engineering support, investigating potential platform abuse, and legal compliance and (2) specialized third-party contractors who are bound by confidentiality and security obligations, solely to review for abuse and misuse.“

Do I understand correctly that no one unless (1) or (2) has access to chat history?

Also I know within my work computer there are ways to see everything I search…

OpenAI only review threads that triggers flag within the system e.g. misuse of the chatgpt. There is a data privacy in place, in short OpenAI do not casually read threads unless flag by their system.

Yes. I think that’s a reasonable assessment.

However you should still tell your management and inform them of that detail at the same time.

I understand what you mean. Again, thank you. I am looking for some comfort over the weekend that I will survive and maybe sleep an hour or two🥲

Thank you. You are the voice that I needed to hear right now.

You see, the thing is, if all staff have unfettered access to upload documents to ChatGPT and your management is not happy about that, their real issue is with controls that OpenAI provides and not with individuals. Maybe they should offer the option to block uploads? (That wouldn’t block cut and paste though.)

But you need to come clean, so the company can asses the situation, by staying silent, it could cause more harm to you and the company.

You are asking questions too big for my brain. The only thing I want to make sure is that uploaded files / documents when deleted from the chat history are not visible to an owner or an admin or whoever is the boss of Chat gpt Teams workspace profile or platform or whatever that is!
