Bug report
In a ChatGPT account’s “settings” → Customize ChatGPT
- Can’t disable gpt-4o image maker
- Can’t enable dalle image maker
Essentially there’s a useless button, affecting nothing.
I show you nothing enabled there, desiring the clearest distraction-free AI for other work. Yet this still results in context placement of:
# Tools
## image_gen
// The `image_gen` tool enables image generation...
The tool presentation of an AI image creator is distinctly different from language in the announcement, BTW. It is not merely a shim for non-gpt-4o models to still make images. It IS how images are made. It could be turned off.
Plus, having it permanently “on” results in that many more undesired image generations triggered accidentally, costing compute resources.
An ideal “advanced” customization interface would be “ Images” (using existing dB field) and then a legacy toggle to get back DALL-E 3 (a toggle control instead of radio buttons, so OpenAI doesn’t need to figure out a proper name). The new image maker fumbled in creating this based on the screenshot just seen, but you get the idea.
