Bug
When text is selected
inside a ChatGPT response,
the small copy / context popup
appears correctly.
However, even a very small
mouse movement can make
the popup disappear again.
No click is required.
The selection itself
may still remain active,
but the action popup
is already gone.
Expected behavior
The popup should remain visible
as long as the text selection
is still valid.
It should disappear only when:
- the user clicks outside
- presses Escape
- changes the selection
- activates one of the actions
Simple cursor movement
should not dismiss it.
Why this matters
Copying selected text
is a frequent desktop action.
If the popup disappears
before the pointer can reach it,
the user has to repeat
the text selection.
This makes a simple interaction
unnecessarily fragile.
The problem becomes especially
noticeable with longer passages
or precise selections.
Desired behavior
Selection created
→ popup appears
→ user moves pointer
→ popup remains available
→ user chooses action
The popup should be anchored
to the active selection,
not to an almost motionless
mouse position.
Acceptance criteria
-
The popup remains visible
while the selection is active. -
Small mouse movements
do not dismiss it. -
Moving toward the popup
does not close it. -
The popup closes only
after an intentional action
or selection change. -
Users do not need
to repeatedly reselect text
just to reach Copy.
