I’m trying to enable the new Memory feature in ChatGPT settings, but when I toggle “Reference saved memories,” the “Reference chat history” option disappears completely, and the memory never actually turns on.

I’ve tried refreshing and using different browsers. Still no luck. Attached is a screenshot for reference.

Has anyone else encountered this? Is this a known issue?

Toggle under the “Learn more” and you will see.

Is your account free?

The Learn more documentation does not address the behavior I am experiencing. I’m on the ChatGPT Plus plan.

Same issue here.

Current OpenAI doc at [https://help.openai.com/en/articles/8590148-memory-faq](https://help.openai.com/en/articles/8590148-memory-faq)

> You can choose to turn on “Saved Memories,” both, or neither. The settings are flexible and you can change them anytime.

Recent chat titles are included in context, but referencing the full content of previous chats is not possible.

I have the same issue. I want to turn off referencing past chats for my case, also on the Plus Plan. The option don’t exist. I have to turn off memory entirely, which isn’t what I want.

Welcome to the community @PaulXYZ!

Click “saved memories” in _Memory summary_ and then you can delete or edit your memories there.

Sorry for the confusion. Memory settings have changed; the current guide explains improved memory and the option to return to saved memories: https://help.openai.com/en/articles/8590148. We haven’t confirmed a fix for the disappearing control or a separate history switch on your setup. We’ll pass along the request to keep saved memories while independently disabling past-chat use.
