Dear OpenAI Team,
I’m a ChatGPT Plus user in Canada, and I’d like to request that ChatGPT Health and native Apple Health integration be expanded to Canadian users.
What makes this especially frustrating is that the functionality already exists.
OpenAI has already built ChatGPT Health with Apple Health connectivity, allowing health data such as sleep, activity, and workouts to provide more personalized context. However, this experience is currently limited to eligible users in the United States.
For Canadian users like me, that means we can use ChatGPT heavily for fitness planning, habits, sleep, nutrition, and general wellness, but we still have to manually tell ChatGPT information that is already sitting on our iPhones and Apple Watches.
That significantly limits what ChatGPT can do as a true personal assistant.
Why Apple Health integration matters
With explicit permission, ChatGPT could use selected Apple Health information such as:
- Sleep duration and sleep stages
- Wake time
- Workouts
- Exercise minutes
- Steps and activity
- Heart rate and resting heart rate
- HRV
- Weight and body measurements
- Other HealthKit information the user explicitly chooses to share
Instead of repeatedly typing:
“I slept 5 hours last night, missed my workout yesterday, and only got 4,000 steps.”
ChatGPT could already have that context when I ask:
“Should I train this morning?”
or:
“How consistent have I actually been this month?”
That would make the assistant much more useful.
This is becoming a competitive gap
This is also increasingly noticeable as competing AI assistants move toward deeper iPhone, health, and personal-context integrations.
Claude, for example, has introduced Apple Health functionality that can analyze health and fitness information such as workouts, sleep, activity, heart rate, HRV, and body measurements. Other AI products are also increasingly competing on integrations and personal context, not just model intelligence.
Even where some of these features remain region-limited, the direction is clear: AI assistants are becoming more connected to users’ real-world data and devices.
For users who already rely heavily on ChatGPT, it is frustrating to watch competitors move in this direction while Canadian ChatGPT users cannot access a capability OpenAI has already developed.
Apple Watch could also make ChatGPT Tasks much smarter
I would also love to see Apple Health eventually become a source of conditions or triggers for ChatGPT Tasks.
For example, instead of:
“Send my morning briefing every day at 6:00 AM.”
I could configure:
“Once Apple Health shows that I have been awake for 10 minutes, start my morning briefing.”
ChatGPT could then combine:
- Last night’s sleep
- My workout plan
- Today’s calendar
- Tasks and reminders
- Important emails
- Weather
- Ongoing projects
- Long-term goals
If I woke up later than planned, the briefing could adapt.
If I slept poorly, it could help me adjust my workout or schedule.
If I slept well and woke early, it could help me make better use of the morning.
That is far more useful than a fixed notification arriving regardless of what is actually happening in my day.
Other useful examples
Apple Health context could allow questions such as:
- “Compare my workout consistency this month with last month.”
- “How has my sleep changed over the past four weeks?”
- “Am I actually averaging enough activity?”
- “I feel exhausted today — look at my recent sleep and training and help me adjust today’s plan.”
- “Did I complete the health habits we agreed on this week?”
- “How often am I actually following the workout schedule we created?”
This is exactly the kind of ongoing context that makes an AI assistant more valuable over time.
Privacy should remain completely user-controlled
Health information is obviously sensitive, so the integration should remain:
- Completely opt-in
- Based on Apple’s HealthKit permission system
- Granular by individual health category
- Read-only unless the user explicitly permits otherwise
- Easy to revoke
- Transparent about what information ChatGPT can access
- Clear about whether information is retained or only accessed when needed
OpenAI has already built much of this privacy architecture into ChatGPT Health, which makes the lack of availability outside the United States even more noticeable.
Please don’t leave Canada behind
Canada is a major Apple market with a large population of iPhone and Apple Watch users.
Canadian users already have access to ChatGPT, Tasks, Memory, connected apps, and many of the other pieces needed for a capable personal assistant.
But without Apple Health access, one of the most useful sources of personal context remains unavailable to us.
I would strongly encourage OpenAI to:
- Expand ChatGPT Health to Canada
- Enable Apple Health connectivity for Canadian users
- Eventually allow HealthKit signals to be used as optional conditions for ChatGPT Tasks and proactive assistance
ChatGPT is already the assistant I want to use.
I would rather see OpenAI close this gap than have to use another AI product simply because it has better integration with the devices and health data I already use every day.
Thank you for considering this request.
